Buy a Quality Pool Table

If you've made the decision to purchase a pool table, then congratulations, it's a good start! However, as you'll soon find out, you're not exactly limited on choice. Of course, for the most part this is a good thing as you'll have a better chance of finding a particular table to suit your taste, however, you can't deny that it makes things a bit more difficult.

In this article we'll take a look at the 3 main factors you'll want to consider when choosing a pool table, helping you come to a decision as to what's right for you. It will ultimately come down to common sense and personal preference, but never the less; here are some things to bear in mind:

The Size
In terms of the length of table, you really have two choices. Ideally, for American Pool, the table should be 7ft to 9ft long. On the other hand, English pool is traditionally played on a shorter table, at 6 ft to 7ft long. If you're buying the table for personal use at home then it really doesn't matter which size you opt for, in fact, more importantly, the main consideration will likely be how big the space is where you intend to position it. A good 10ft distance between each side and the nearest obstruction is best to give each player enough room. If this isn't possible in your home or wherever you intend to position the table, you'll just have to make a sacrifice.

The Type
Aside from the size of pool table, you'll also want decide what "type" you want. You can have a commercial table that is most likely coin operated, or one that is purely designed for home use. The material is also obviously a big consideration and something that varies enormously. You'll be able to choose from different types of wood and other materials, as well as the overall finish of the surface. This will ultimately come down to your budget and personal preference.

The Style
No particular style is better than any other: it's one hundred percent personal preference. You can opt for a modern pool table, one with a more classic, traditional design, or perhaps a completely custom made design to your specifications. This is up to you and where you'll either have a really easy time deciding which one to go for, or a hard time choosing between them all.

So hopefully this article has given you some things to think about with regards to choosing a pool table. Again, there's no right or wrong answer. What's ideal for you will ultimately come down to your budget, how much space you have and of course, your personal taste.
